The remarkable advancement of new technologies has significantly lowered the barriers to entry in space development, reducing costs and diversifying commercial opportunities. This has led to the dawn of the NewSpace era, marked by private-led endeavors in space exploration. In this era, the growth of private space assets has contributed to the progress of the digital economy and the expansion of essential services. Space is evolving into a new domain, shifting from a terrain of national competition to a space where private-centric values and benefits are generated.

However, it's essential to not only perceive space as a realm for development and industrial growth but also as a domain requiring safeguarding in terms of security. Given the economic and security significance of space, the interests of major powers are sharply opposed, accelerating competition between factions to secure strategic superiority. Malicious actions targeting space assets by competitive or adversarial nations, the challenge of space debris, cyber attacks, and information breaches directed at space assets and systems pose severe threats, not only to national security but also to economic prosperity and scientific technological advancement.

Therefore, the Korean Academy of Space Security is delighted to announce the inauguration of the "1st International Symposium on Space Security " under the theme "Space Security in the NewSpace Era: Technology, Policy, and Collaboration." Through this symposium, we aim to share "Key National Policies on Space Security," explore the "Latest Trends in Space Security Technology," and seek "Ways to Strengthen Space Security Collaboration" with both domestic institutions and organizations, as well as nations sharing the values of freedom and democracy.

Even amidst your busy schedule, we kindly request that you take valuable time to share your experiences and knowledge regarding space security. Your insights and wisdom in this field would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Lee Jae-Woo,
Chairman of the Korean Academy of Space Security
